Please join us in congratulating Yvette Skinner for being awarded the 2024 Larry Peabody Award at this year’s SAREX. Yvette was nominated for this award by Celeste Fowler, Assistant Chief with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

Yvette shares her response to receiving this honor:

What an honor! At this year’s California SAREX I was presented with the CALOES Peabody award for going above and beyond the call of duty in my service to the California SAR community. I am so grateful to the mentors and team members who have aided me in my growth and development. Java and I are the high caliber team we are today because we have been guided, supported, mentored, and challenged. I’m giving a shout out to my CARDA – California Rescue Dog Association mentors: Kathryn Stewart and Sonya Roth. They guided me on my journey from rookie to Mission Ready deployable team. Much gratitude to my CARDA K9 training teams: GBA and MidPen. They offer Java and I challenging and innovative trainings so that we can hone our skills and stay sharp. I am proud to serve with CARDA – California Rescue Dog Association, Marin County Search and Rescue, and Napa County Sheriff Volunteer Search & Rescue teams. Java and I will never stop learning and never stop striving for excellence.
